Therapy Services
With a variety of therapy services offered as part of our inpatient, day patient and outpatient programming, Children’s Hospital is the largest provider of pediatric rehabilitation therapies in the central Virginia area.
Incorporating a team-oriented, interdisciplinary approach, children and families come to our main hospital or community-based therapy centers for individual therapy sessions and/or an entire rehabilitation program. Children may be served by many different therapeutic disciplines: physical and gross motor activities are addressed in Physical Therapy; fine motor skills in Occupational Therapy; communication needs in Speech; and emotional, cognitive or behavioral issues in Psychology.
Communication between all disciplines involved is a priority and carryover between disciplines ensures team members are working to provide coordinated care. Family members and caregivers are considered essential members of a child’s treatment team and the goals of each family are incorporated into treatment decisions and the development of home programs.
The pediatric rehabilitation specialists we offer—physicians, therapists, nutritionists and educational consultants, to name a few—is fairly common in a rehabilitation setting, but what makes therapy services offered through Children’s Hospital so unique is a high level of expertise that is exclusively geared toward pediatrics.
