Family Fun and Fitness: Tips for Parents

1. Be a good role model – exercise regularly and eat in a healthy manner

2. Make fitness a priority – schedule physical activities for the family, such as biking, hiking, tennis and swimming

3. Share the excitement – go to games together and watch them on television

4. Encourage participation in individual and team sports – discuss preferences and sign up

5. Be a fan – attend your child’s practices and sport events

6. Remember what is important – praise your child’s efforts as well as accomplishments

7. Become a “student of the game” – learn about your child’s favorite activities

8. Show your enthusiasm – talk with your child about his/her performance and assist with skill development

9. Get involved – volunteer to be a coach or team parent

10. Remain a “child at heart” – play with your child and have fun!!!
