Ways to Help

Fundraising Through Children's Hospital Foundation

Since its founding over 80 years ago, Children’s Hospital has relied upon the financial support of individuals throughout our statewide community and beyond to continue our mission of caring for children. As a supporting entity of Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Foundation leads the philanthropic programs that are designed to support the on-going needs of the hospital. Contributions can be made to the Foundation in a variety of ways - whether you’d like to make a planned gift, or just collect spare change, your donations are always appreciated.

General Contributions for Operational Needs

Most of our supporters make their gifts in the form of outright unrestricted gifts of cash during their lifetimes, which continues to be a priority for the hospital. Gifts which are made in this way are used for the general operations of the hospital.

In making a gift for the general operations of the hospital, you are providing for the care and treatment of children through the everyday needs associated with running our hospital. All of our clinical staff members are pediatric trained and experienced, our equipment is just the right size for our pediatric patients, and our therapy teams are designed to treat children in an environment which allows for the most thorough and comprehensive treatment available. All of the things mentioned above, and many more, make up the daily operations of the hospital and require support from our community.

We have a great need for unrestricted gifts for general operations. If you would like to make a contribution to Children’s Hospital Foundation, please click here to donate by credit card through our secure online server or mail your donation to:

Planned Gifts

Throughout the years, we have been fortunate to receive much support in the form of planned gifts. In fact, the construction of the main hospital building from which we still operate today was funded through a bequest from Mrs. Sallie May Dooley of Richmond in 1928.

Our deepest gratitude for these gifts continues today. In early 2007 Children’s Hospital Foundation received its largest life insurance gift, a policy valued at $2 million. The donor, who named Children’s Hospital as the owner of the policy, anticipates making annual gifts to the hospital to cover the cost of the premiums. In exchange, she will receive an immediate income tax deduction for the gift.

Through this site we offer information we trust will be helpful to you when you consider making gifts to Children’s Hospital Foundation in ways that allow you to maintain your financial security while meeting other current and future financial goals.

Memorial or Honor Gifts

Oftentimes gifts to the hospital are made as a way to memorialize a friend or loved one. Honor gifts are usually made to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. These kinds of gifts can be made as general contributions or planned gifts. If you request it, we will notify the family of the memorialized individual or honoree with a special card from Children’s Hospital informing them the gift has been made. This is a very special way in which to express grief or celebrate a special occasion. Memorial and honor gifts can be made online by clicking here or by mail at the above address.

Capital Gifts

Pediatric health care is very expensive because of the multitude of equipment needs our facility must provide each year. X-ray equiment, beds on the Inpatient Unit, computer equiment, wheelchairs, ultrasound equipment all represent examples of capital needs which our hospital must consider each year. Often we are able to find an individual, company or foundation who has an interest in purchasing a particular piece of equipment for us. Our hospital representative will be happy to discuss with you a current list of needs.
