Over the course of 2008, Children’s Hospital has worked on the construction and expansion of the Transitional Care Unit (TCU). As of its completion in Fall of 2008, we are pleased to have a complement of 47 inpatient beds. In order to complete the residential environment for the children served on the TCU, Children’s Hospital has also made plans for renovating the outdoor playground located adjacent to the unit.
Our goal is to focus on the outdoor experience that is so important to the continued care and progress of our inpatient residents, as well as for all of the children we treat. The playground will be a healing environment which is safe, accessible to children with disabilities, and facilitates therapeutic play. Our plans, which are already well underway, involve renovating the current playground with a completely new design, new equipment and appropriate landscaping.
When the playgound is completed, it will provide a welcoming environment in which patients and families can gather for interaction, fun activities, and seasonal celebrations.
