• Yogurt with granola or drinkable yogurt with a serving of fruit
• Whole grain dry or hot cereal made with low fat milk
• Peanut butter or light cream cheese on whole grain waffle, bagel, toast or English muffin
• String or sliced cheese with whole grain toast
• Fruit kabobs (tangerine, apple, banana, grapes)
• Granola bar with low fat milk Trail mix (dried fruit, nuts, whole grain cereal)
• Oatmeal fruit pancakes
• Fruit muffins or quick bread made with
• whole grain flour
• French Toast made with whole grain bread
• Cottage cheese mixed with berries or canned fruit
• Fruit and cream cheese sandwich
• Cheese sandwich or cheese quesadilla
• Hard-boiled eggs with whole grain toast and fruit
Healthy Breakfast Recipes
Peanut Butter Bran Cereal Balls
• 2 cups peanut butter
• 2 1/2 cups whole bran cereal
• 2 cups powdered milk
• 1 1/2 cups raisins
• 1/2 cup honey
In a large bowl, mix together the peanut butter, bran cereal, powdered milk, raisins and honey using your hands or a wooden spoon. Roll dough into walnut-size balls. Wrap each ball in waxed paper, twist ends and refrigerate.
Ready to Blend Smoothies
• 1/2 cup fruit
• 1/2 cup yogurt
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 cup juice
Place fruit and yogurt in a small Ziploc bag and freeze. In the morning, grab a bag from the freezer, put in blender with milk and juice, and blend until smooth.
Banana Dog
• 1 whole banana, peeled
• 1 whole-wheat hot dog bun (or small soft whole grain tortilla)
• wheat germ or sunflower seeds
• 1 Tablespoon peanut butter
Spread bun or tortilla with peanut butter. Sprinkle with wheat germ or sunflower seeds and top with banana. Add a squiggle of jam if desired.
Egg Burrito
• 2 eggs
• 1 slice cheese or 3 Tablespoons shredded cheese
• 1 Tablespoon salsa
• 1 whole grain soft tortilla shell
Beat eggs and scramble in a skillet lightly buttered or sprayed with cooking spray. Place cooked eggs, cheese and salsa on tortilla. Microwave on high just until cheese melts. Wrap and enjoy.
