Annual Report
From Children’s Hospital
Dear Friends:
Despite its challenges, the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2007 brought many accomplishments to Children’s Hospital. The enthusiastic support among our donors, volunteers, families and staff enabled us to continue to grow and serve more children.
We are pleased to have served so many children throughout the year in our five core clinical programs including dental, feeding, outpatient physician clinics, outpatient rehabilitation therapy and transitional care. Throughout the year the staff worked hard to insure continuous improvement in all aspects of our patient care and customer service. Quality and safety never left focus, and a scorecard was implemented to keep our performance visible for all to see.
The growth in the outpatient therapy program was most remarkable. A record number of children received physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy at our various locations throughout the community. Our Fredericksburg Therapy Center experienced the largest growth in the number of children served and highlighted the year with a move to a brand new, beautifully-designed facility.
At the hospital, construction began in June to add 24 beds to our Transitional Care Unit. The families of children in that program as well as families awaiting the additional beds will be delighted with the new expanded unit upon completion in the fall of 2008. The staff is eager to care for the children who reside in the unit in new surroundings and to welcome 24 new residents in the near future.
It also was a year of construction in several other areas of the hospital. We are proud of the new facilities for our dental program as well as for the feeding program. The children and families are delighted with the new environment, and the enhanced space positions us for continued growth in these programs.
Our biggest challenge and disappointment was not realizing our vision of building a full service acute hospital dedicated to children. This would have taken pediatric healthcare in our community to a new level. Many hours and resources were devoted, and the effort was diligent. The decision to stop the project was most difficult but one that was fiscally prudent.
Time and again families tell us what a difference Children’s Hospital has made for their child and how much they appreciate the compassionate, warm and friendly environment. Because of our many friends we are able to be here for the children who need our unique services. We are able to be a part of transforming moments for them, making a difference in their lives, and, in turn, enriching ours. Thank you for being partners in our mission.
Sincerely,

From Children’s Hospital Foundation
Dear Friends:
On behalf of Children’s Hospital Foundation, we are pleased to report to you on the progress we have made during this past fiscal year. As you can see from the information provided in the report, we achieved our most successful year ever in both restricted and unrestricted funding. As a Foundation, our goal and reason for existence is to support the mission and vision of Children’s Hospital. This includes funding for special projects, capital equipment, programs and the daily operations of the hospital.
In April 2006 the Board decided to engage the Foundation in active fundraising efforts throughout the community. Until that point, the Foundation received gifts primarily from individual donors who had included the hospital in their estate plans. With that decision, the Foundation’s role was expanded to be more active in the overall hospital fundraising process. We believe that decision has proven to be beneficial for our organization and ultimately the many patients we serve.
During our first full year of operation we were able to provide funding for various initiatives of the hospital including the Dental Expansion Project, Children’s Feeding Program Relocation and Transitional Care Unit Construction. In addition, we provided funding to support many of the activities required to assist the hospital in conducting business on a daily basis. We have also supported Advocacy Programs designed to provide education and support for children and families throughout our community.
These achievements would not be possible without the generosity of the many individuals, corporations and Foundations who support us throughout the year. It is because of your continued interest in our mission that we can provide the support needed to accomplish our goals. Thank you for your on-going support, and please feel free to contact either of us if we can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
