About Us

Mission of Children's Hospital

Children’s Hospital is a resource and provider of specialized medical and therapeutic services customized to meet the specific needs of children and their families.

More Than a Mission

Children’s Hospital is changing the lives of thousands of children and their families. From teaching a premature infant how to eat by mouth to helping a young adult with cerebral palsy live independently, our expertise in pediatric specialty services and our commitment to providing compassionate care in a family-centered environment turns hope into healing every day. Our specialty programs serve a diverse, but very concentrated, population of children. Well known for our interdisciplinary approach to treating children with illnesses and disabilities, we also help families address and manage childhood development concerns. Plus, we take our mission even further by providing extensive outreach, safety and education programs to thousands of children in our community.

Our main hospital in Richmond offers inpatient, day patient and outpatient services providing evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for a variety of short-term and lifetime medical conditions. To serve the growing number of families who depend on us we also have therapy centers in other Virginia locations, including Bon Air, Glen Allen, Fredericksburg, and Petersburg. All of our facilities are staffed by a team of devoted medical professionals who provide expert and loving care in an atmosphere of respect, compassion and dignity. Our core services are listed below:

  • Our Pediatric Therapy Program serves more children than any other in the region and does so with five area locations to meet the needs of the families we serve.
  • Our Transitional Care Unit provides developmentally appropriate inpatient care for children and young adults with complex medical needs, within a supportive, family-centered environment.
  • Our Multispecialty Clinics for cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spasticity and spina bifida bring together numerous disciplines at one time, allowing families to get the expertise they need for their child’s care all in one place.
  • Our Pediatric Dental Program provides comprehensive services—from routine checkups to complex surgical procedures—to all children, including those with special health care needs.
  • Our Children’s Feeding Program, one of only a few programs of its kind in the entire country, helps children who have a medical condition that has affected their feeding and growth.
For additional information about these programs and our other services, please visit our Patients and Visitors section.
